An Art Critique

This artwork is named “The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt. It was done in 1907. I like the yellow in this art it because it goes with the other colors and makes the art work pop. I like how he shows the clothing by using different shapes, like squares and circles. The background looks like a rough surface, it reminds me of concrete. Also, I like how he uses a totally different color on the bottom to show something different.
In this work a lot of shapes that are repeated. The black and white squares or rectangles represents the man’s body and the circles represents the women’s body and I think that Gustav was trying to say that although they are different they can still love each other. The yellow I feel like is the thing that brings them together because that is a color that’s on both. Also, below them shows a bunch of flowers so maybe they are in a garden.
This is honestly one of my favorite artworks. When I first saw it, I thought it was so pretty and I hadn’t seen any other oil paintings like it. I really loved how the yellow was brought into it too because I’m not a bring fan of yellow. It really amazes me how Gustav put it together with shapes and swivels and how much detail he added into it.
